Because of my 22 years experience in the automobile business I have friends and relatives ask me to help them get a good deal on purchasing a used car. Here’s how I do it.
Used Vehicle Price Option #1 Kelly Blue Book (KBB) is the most popular used car valuation book.
With the local dealerships I have relationships with I get them to sell my friends used automobiles for the KBB “Private Party Value” on most all used vehicles. This is a significant savings over paying the KBB "suggested retail value" that many retail car dealers use to price their used cars and trucks.

Used Vehicle Price Option #2 This is for the people I know who like to shop till they drop and have the time to do that. I tell them to go out and get the best price they can on a used vehicle. Then I take the deal and see if I can get one of my dealership contacts to beat it. If they do I also get 5 other powerful guarantees with the deal for them. This takes good deals and makes them great ones.
What you don’t know about
used car book values can hurt you
When using Kelly Blue Book to price used cars (or any of the other books) it’s important to remember the condition price adjustment. This can change the value of a used car dramatically. KBB has four condition classifications: Excellent, good, fair, and poor.
If you are not sure which category to classify a vehicle in they have an interesting little tool called “Take a quiz on condition.” This can help you better understand how to more accurately classify a used vehicle.
There is one more value I want to mention to you called trade-in value. Trade-in Value is what consumers can expect to receive from car dealers for their trade-in vehicle.
